It’s grown and harvested by 333 families and farms in Kenya. Sprawling over 124 acres, it lies within doTERRA’s co impact sourcing Lunga Lunga project, and as a result, doTERRA’s Healing Hands foundation have more than 10 community projects in this region that have benefited the health and wellbeing of thousands of Kenyans.

n the past two years, the following community projects have been funded through donations from the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation:

  • Construction of a new community center, kindergarten, community water tower and river bridge;
  • Improvements to two primary schools;
  • Creation of a water maintenance trust fund;
  • Indigenous culture and health trainings for over 2,000 school-aged children; and
  • Education and reforestation of indigenous trees.

In addition to donations from the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation, doTERRA has established a Community Development Fund in Kenya. For every kilogram of essential oil produced by its farmer cooperatives, a portion of that revenue is set aside in a fund overseen by the cooperatives themselves to finance larger development projects at their discretion.

Lemon Eucalyptus is derived from a lemon-scented blue gum eucalypti plant, a tall tree with smooth bark. With many topical benefits, Lemon Eucalyptus provides powerful antioxidant support to the skin. the oil is known for its refreshing aroma that helps create an invigorating environment. Lemon Eucalyptus is high in cleansing citronellal and citronellol, making this essential oil ideal for surface and skin cleansing. Lemon Eucalyptus essential oil is commonly associated with Citronella, and for good reason—they both are rich in citronellal and contain citronellol—but there are some key differences that make these essential oils distinct. The chemical composition of Lemon Eucalyptus is dominated by citronellal, but it also contains measurable amounts of other volatile aromatic compounds. In fact, GC/MS data suggests that Lemon Eucalyptus contains over three dozen volatile aromatic compounds in easily measurable concentrations. While that high concentration of citronellal and citronellol suggests that Lemon Eucalyptus has skin, hair, and surface cleansing and repellant properties, that is just a small part of the picture1.

doTERRA’s source of Lemon Eucalyptus essential oil contains concentrations of a terpene compound that you may have little familiarity with: isopulegol. Also found in Geranium and Lemongrass, isopulegol is a chemical precursor to menthol, and has shown some similar benefits in experimental research. Experimental research suggests that isopulegol, like menthol, may have surface cleansing properties2. Other experimental studies suggest that isopulegol may also be highly antioxidant and have mood-modulating properties3,4.
